Do the branch and leaf pieces have real branches and leaves inside?

Yes! These wild elements are entirely organic and remain whole, below their copper coatings.

How long does it take to coat each piece?

Each piece is unique. The coating process can take anywhere from 10 hours to 40 hours depending on the piece. The branches and leaves are coated the longest in order give them strength.

    ––

    Are the pieces breakable?

Each piece is robust, however, you should treat it with care as it is not solid metal. See Jewelry Care page for more information.

    ––

    Do you make custom pieces?

    Not yet, but coming soon!

    ––

How do you bind the copper to the branch/stone/leaf?

Using a process called electroforming. Using electricity we coat the piece with copper, molecule by molecule, until a substantial covering of copper is created.

    ––

    Does your jewelry contain Nickel?

No Velvadeer products contain nickel. We use copper, hypoallergenic niobium, copper coated brass and sterling silver.

    ––

Will the copper leave marks on my skin?

    See Velvadeer Care page.

    ––

What are the chains and clasps made of?

    Copper coated brass.

    ––

What are the earring posts and hooks made of?

Niobium* (dark copper ear hook), 100% copper (bright copper ear hook), or sterling silver (stud earring posts).

*Niobium is a nickel-free hypoallergenic metal. It is very resistant to corrosion and other reactions, and is used in medical implants. Niobium is not plated or painted, so will not flake or chip. It is anodized, meaning it is colored by dipping it into an electrically charged "bath." Because it contains no nickel, lead, or other additives, most people with metal allergies can safely wear niobium.
